Nightmare On Elm Street (NES) Walkthrough

It’s time once again to stop evil from invading our dreams! This time in a Nintendo classic, “Nightmare On Elm Street”! If you’re looking for some tips, you’ve come to the right place!┬áNightmare On Elm Street (NES) Walkthrough has a strategy you can use to beat this game, due to the fact it’s almost impossible not to die!

Nightmare On Elm Street (NES) Walkthrough
Stress not, for I will show you some ways sustain a minimal amount of damage from Freddy’s onslaught! At the beginning of the game, there are three house you enter. These three house are randomized each time you play. Which means, every time you start up a new game the three houses you enter will change order in which you enter them! Take note! You start out with five lives and three continues, so use your lives carefully! Every time you beat a boss a key will drop and give you an extra life, which is key to prolonging using a continue up!

These are the first three houses. House #1 (Top Left), House #2 (Top Right), House #3 (Bottom)

The best strategy is to hope that the first house you enter is the house you start in front of. If you manage that you’re off to a good start! Once you go into a house, your objective is to collect all the white bones scattered throughout the levels. The amount required is indicated in the middle of the screen, below the title of the game. Once you have collected all the bones an indication sound will be played signifying that you have collected all the bones required to progress to the next part of the house to fight the boss! Don’t forget to pick up the hero icons along the way! If you missed any of the dream warrior icons, there is always some lurking in each of the levels! So, keep an eye out for them!

Be aware as you play, there is a red bar that depletes over time! This bar is your Sleep meter. Standing in place drops the sleep meter faster! Once your sleep meter drops to zero, you will fall asleep and enter the dream world! In the dream world you will be able to use the dream warriors you have collected (press select to change warriors) to take down Freddy’s nightmare creatures! This is also a double edge sword due to the fact that once you enter the dream world you cannot collect any of the dream warriors! Relax! You can exit the dream world by finding the boom boxes to wake yourself up! If you are awake, grab the coffee mug to refill your sleep meter.

OH NO!!!! Looks like Freddy is coming for you! If you stay too long in the dream world, you will hear the classic Freddy tune we all know! Then, as seen above, the screen will go black and flash “Freddy’s Coming!”! Now you must fight Freddy for your life! Best way to avoid this fight and save some lives is to grab the boom box (Dream World) or grab the coffee mug (Real World) to replenish your sleep meter.

Now that I’ve covered these basic mechanics let’s move on to the order of houses! Like I was saying before, hope you start out at the house (House #1) that you begin in front of. Once you beat that house, avoid fighting where you can on Elm Street to get to the next house (House #2 in this case)! Complete the objective once again and fight the boss and avoid fights to get to the third House!

So, you’ve finished the randomized first three houses without losing a lot of lives? You’re off to a great mid game start! Now, at this point the places that you enter from this point are no longer random and stay in the same order each time you play! Time to put on a serious game face from here on because it only gets harder from here!

The Junk Yard

Up next is the Junk Yard! Before entering this place, please take a moment to breathe because things are about to get serious from here on out! When you enter the Junk Yard prepare yourself to take things slow! Going too fast will only get you killed faster! With numerous enemies, spike traps, and rocks falling from above, things will get a bit hectic here! Pay attention to the timing of the falling rocks! There is a small window of time to get past the rocks, all you gotta do is watch how they fall and make a well timed jump through them! Just take your time, grab the bones, and be on your way! If you rush, survival will be less likely to happen! I also recommend if you have the Shadow Warrior (Yin-Yang Dream Warrior Icon), use him to fight the boss! His jump kick is best for this flying boss situation!

Elm St Cemetery

Congratulations! You made it pass the first hair puller! Now we head to the Elm St. Cemetery! This level is more of a headache than the Junk Yard! When entering this level, prepare for death! You will die here!

Remember how I was telling you how you will die in this level? The picture above is where you’ll have a lot of problems! Once you jump on this bubble, you must immediately, I mean IMMEDIATELY, jump or you will fall! Many lives can be lost due to this bubble! See the gravestone on the bottom there? A rock falls from the ceiling of there so try to be as close to the edge as you can or when the rock breaks in two you will be hit and possibly fall into the water so keep that in mind while you wait for the bubble to appear! Once you have grabbed all the bones in this level you will fight the ghost of Freddy! I once again recommend using the Shadow Warrior (Yin-Yang dream warrior icon) to defeat him due to the fact that he fly’s too!

Nightmare On Elm Street (NES) WalkthroughFreddy’s House

Up next is Freddy’s House! Great job making it this far! Now, this level is a bit different: Instead of going through collecting the bones and collecting more bones in another part of the level, this one consists of three different areas to collect all the bones! Once you have grabbed all the bones, you will face Freddy’s head and glove! Once again, I recommend the Shadow Warrior! If you haven’t figured it out by now, Shadow Warrior is by far the best to use in the dream world, due to the fact that even while jumping you can still attack!

Freddy’s head and glove.

Once you have beaten Freddy’s head and glove, congrats! You’ve almost survived the entire game! For making it this far without pulling your hair out, you should give yourself a pat on the back and a job well done so far! Don’t get too excited though because now comes the ultimate mood changer! If you need to take a break for a second! If you thought all the levels you’ve been through can’t get any worse, you’re sorely mistaken!

Elm St High School

Welcome to Elm St High School! The madness begins here! Prepare for battle! You’ll start of collecting bones in three different areas! Prepare yourself, your sleep meter will definitely drop to zero in this level! So, watch out for Freddy or you might just lose it all before you even beat it! Once you have collected all of the bones for the three areas, brace yourself! All of those bosses you’ve beaten are back and meaner than ever! Yes that is correct! You must fight every boss you have already beaten! This time around you will not receive anything from any of these bosses!

Nightmare On Elm Street (NES) Walkthrough

Here we are! You’ve made it! The final boss! Once you have tossed all the bones into the fire, Freddy will appear for one last fight with you! Prepare yourself for his jumps and his claws that come out of the floor! Thrash him for a bit and BAM! CONGRATULATIONS! You did it! You beat Freddy’s crispy butt!
